City of Brodhead
The plat of Brodhead covers all of section 25 and portions of sections 24 and 36, township 2 north, range 9 east. The Mineral Point branch of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St Paul Railway passes through from east to west. After having no luck securing land in Decatur, the railroad agent came to Brodhead. An agreement was struck with the proprietors of Brodhead, some of which were: Edward BRODHEAD, E. D. CLINTON, John P. DIXON, John L. McNAIR, I .F. MACK; Erastus SMITH; and John L. V. THOMAS.
The village was platted in 1856. The first building was that of John P DIXON who erected a two- story building which housed general merchandise.
Other settlers in Brodhead were: James SHERMAN, Dr M L BURNHAM, Joshua NANSCAWN, and Joseph MERRILL.
Religions were Congregational, Methodist Episcopal, Presbyterian, Baptist, Advent, Catholic and Episcopal as of 1884.

Brodhead Historical Society
The Brodhead Historical Society organized in 1975 and in 1981 opened the local depot as a historical museum. The museum is open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 PM from Memorial Day Weekend to the end of September.
