Village of Attica
Attica is located in the far southwest corner of Brooklyn Township. In 1845 it was called Winneshiek after an Indian Chief. Later it was named Milford and then returned to Winneshiek. But when the Post Office was established it was learned another Winneshiek already existed in Wisconsin. The name "Attica" was chosen after Attica, New York.
Several settlers already in the area were: Newell DUSTIN, Elijah THOMPSON, Ben CROSS, Chester WHITLER, and Lorenzo BARNES.
Later settlers were: Jeptha DAVIS, Joseph BARTLETT, S.A. Scott, Joshua CLARK, Benjamin CLEVELAND, and Oscar PERSONS.
There was also one Church society.
