Albany Township
The town of Albany is on the eastern tier of Green county, comprising congressional township 3 north, range 9 east, except 320 acres of section 6, which has been annexed to Brooklyn. To the north of Albany lies the town of Brooklyn, its east line forms the Rock county boundary and to the west and south are the towns of Mount Pleasant and Decatur, respectively.

A. A. Wessell Clock
An A. A. Wessel Clock (an early jeweler in Albany area) that is said to have hung in the front of the jewelry store for many years, and that everyone in town would set their watches to it. It now belongs to Paul Garvoille and hangs in his home.

An early settler in the town of Albany was James CAMPBELL of PA. coming here in 1839. He was accompanied by John SUTHERLAND. They, along with CAMPBELL's wife were the only settlers until 1842.
Hiram BROWN came in 1842 as did John BROUGHTON; John WARNER; John SNELL; Lathrop ABBOT.
Other settlers to follow were: Rev. Stephen Leonard ELDRED; Joshua WHITCOMB; Erastus HULBURT; Harry M. PURINGTON; Christopher MEINERT; James SPENCER; Thomas McVEE; and Jeremiah BREWER.
Hoosic post office was established in 1849 on section 36 with Jeremiah BREWER postmaster. Religions were Methodist Episcopal; United Brethren; Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran.

- The first birth was that of Stephen, son of Stephen L. and Roxanna ELDRED 31 July 1843.
- The first marriage was that of Albert S. HOLMES to Sarah A. CASS 26 July 1846.
- The village of Albany was first called "Campbell's Ford".
- The first marriage in the village was Daniel BAXTER and Chloe NICHOLS in 1847.
- The first birth was Philander NICHOLS.
- The first death was that of Thomas McVEE in 1846.
